Staring on the ledge, she stared out across the water.

Her heart was racing as the light searched and searched.

The fog hadn’t lifted in days but she still held out hope.

There was talk among the town about a curse.

An old evil that had been woken by their many voyages.

But still she hoped.

 

Three days later when there was no light coming anymore, some villagers decided to search the tower.

They looked all over and it was at the top of the tower, where the flame had been extinguished, that they found her.

Her body looked like she was sleeping. She was beautiful even in death.

Everything was perfectly serene, except for her eyes.

Her eyes were wide open in terror, staring at some point beyond them.

Staring at the forever extinguished light, just like the light lost from her eyes.
